Edward Vielmetti has done it again! Twice actually, but I’m just sticking with the books right now.* He reworked a Greasemonkey user script to make links to AADL catalog book titles appear on Amazon pages. His script can be found here: http://userscripts.org/scripts/show/2592.
Pretty neat, eh? Especially since AADL is also an Innovative library.
A little tweek here and tuck there and voilá!

I’m not too keen on the “In a St. Joseph County Library!” wording, but it was the best solution I could come up with since SJCPL shares its catalog with 3 other area libraries. I’ve already shared this with some of our reference staff and our acquisitions head, and set up a page for staff with installation instructions. I hope to make this page available to the public once there’s enough staff buy in. I can see this being amazingly useful on desk. I also plan on installing it on my mom’s computer a.s.a.p. because I know she uses Amazon to find book titles, and then goes to the library catalog to see if they are available. This cuts out a lot of redundancy on her end.
You can get my version of the script here: http://userscripts.org/scripts/show/2601. I couldn’t get all of the functionality out of it that Ed did, but I don’t think anyone will mind.
*Scroll down to MovieDude on his blog and you’ll see what he’s done with IMDB.
